Java parsing date with timezone from a string

Java parsing date with timezone from a string

To fix the issue you can do I want to parse a date with timezone from a string in the format "31-12-2014 18:09 +05:30". I tried to parse using simple-Date-Format using "d-MM-yyyy HH:mm ZZ" and "d-MM-yyyy HH:mm Z". But it is giving me a un-parables date exception. How to do this? Please help me.
code :
SimpleDateFormat sdf = new SimpleDateFormat("dd-MM-yyyy HH:mm XXX");
Date d = sdf.parse("31-12-2014 18:09 +05:30");
System.out.println(d);

it helps some times Consider switching to Joda time - it offers a lot more flexibility and readability than the java native date libraries, including handling that time zone style (that's one of the key reasons I switched).

Does that help You already have a Date (or the number of milliseconds of the Date), so there is nothing to convert. A Date doesn't have any time zone. It's a universal instant in time. The time zone is relevant only when you display this date, because the date 65647678000 could be 12:38 in some time zone, but 10:38 in some other time zone. It's also relevant when you parse the String representation of a Date, because 10:38 is 65647678000 in some time zone, but is 65657678000 in some other.
While you don't display a Date object, or parse a String to a Date, you don't need to care about time zones. And to choose the time zone used when displaying/parsing it, set the time zone of the DateFormat, and then use DateFormat.format()/DateFormat.parse() to format/parse the date.

To fix this issue .appendLiteral('Z') means that you expect the letter 'Z' here, nothing else.
Use appendTimeZoneOffset(String zeroOffsetText, boolean showSeparators, int minFields, int maxFields) instead to expect the time zone offset.

Any of those help An OffsetDateTime requires a time-of-day, but your format string doesn't supply that, so you need to tell the DateTimeFormatter to default time-of-day to midnight.
Also, offset +3:00 is invalid, since hour must be 2-digit, which means you need to fix that first.
code :
public static OffsetDateTime parse(String text) {
    // Fix 1-digit offset hour
    String s = text.replaceFirst("( [+-])(\\d:\\d\\d)$", "$10$2");

    DateTimeFormatter formatter = new DateTimeFormatterBuilder()
            .appendPattern("uuuu-MM-dd xxx")
            .parseDefaulting(ChronoField.HOUR_OF_DAY, 0)
            .toFormatter();
    return OffsetDateTime.parse(s, formatter);
}
System.out.println(parse("2018-07-22 +3:00"));
System.out.println(parse("2018-07-22 +03:00"));
System.out.println(parse("2007-07-21 +00:00"));

Any of those help This could be done using standard Java time library and ZonedDateTime class. Take a look at following example how to do it:
code :
    String date = "Sat Mar 2 09:40:20 PST 2019";
    DateTimeFormatter formatter = DateTimeFormatter.ofPattern("EEE MMM d HH:mm:ss zzz yyyy", Locale.ENGLISH);
    ZonedDateTime zonedDateTime = ZonedDateTime.parse(date,formatter);
    System.out.println(zonedDateTime);
