this will help Yes, it's definitely possible.
Create separate validator. Let assume it's called SanitizeValidator and placed in common/components folder.
code :
use yii\validators\Validator;

class SanitizeValidator extends Validator
{
    /**
     * @inheritdoc
     */
    public function validateAttribute($model, $attribute)
    {
        $model->$attribute = general::stripTagsConvert($model->$attribute, null, true);
    }
}
use common/components/SanitizeValidator;

/**
 * @inheritdoc
 */
public function rules()
{
    return [
        [['company_name', 'first_name', 'last_name'], SanitizeValidator::className()],
    ];
}

I think the issue was by ths following , Yes, it absolutely does. It's described in section 8.4.8.
If there's one specific aspect you're trying to find and having problems with, please be more specific in your question - "the rules of method overriding" are pretty broad.
Do method attributes cause filters to be called or do filters check to see if they exist?

I wish did fix the issue. Attributes by themselves do not run any code.
The MVC action pipeline uses Reflection to look for all filter attributes on the action method and controller class, and manually invokes them, just like it does for the global filter collection.

help you fix your problem Instead of pushing new key to set the chat's id in the "uid" key, you can directly set the chat's key as the child under /users//chats with true as the value.
code :
{
    "users": {
        "<uid>": {
            "chats": {
                "<chat_id>" : true,
                "<chat_id2>" : true
            }
        }
    }
}
Is there a method to derive equivalent filters from join filters and others?

fixed the issue. Will look into that further I think you need JoinPushTransitivePredicatesRule or something similar. It works by inferring a RelOptPredicateList from predicates in the join and also present on the inputs, propagating those predicates to the columns on the other side of the join, and pushing them down to the inputs if possible.
For example, given
code :
SELECT *
FROM (SELECT * FROM Emp WHERE deptno >= 10) AS e
JOIN Dept AS d
    ON e.deptno = d.deptno
SELECT *
FROM (SELECT * FROM Emp WHERE deptno >= 10) AS e
JOIN (SELECT * FROM Dept WHERE deptno >= 10) AS d
    ON e.deptno = d.deptno

I hope this helps . You can unit test models and child models but you will need to change your validation class to use a separate validator class which just validates the child model:
