Docker: Which approach is better? WAR embedded in image or base image + war?

Docker: Which approach is better? WAR embedded in image or base image + war?

Does that help If you want to deploy your code onto a docker orchestration service such as Google Container Engine, Amazon Container Service etc then option 1 is normally the only feasible solution as you don't have access to the host. Option 1 is also more scalable on docker orchestration systems as you can create multiple instances of your service on various docker hosts.
However, I myself use option 2 for the reasons you have mentioned and because I manage scaling through auto-scaling groups using cloud formation which can provision instances with my war in the local store. Right now I don't think docker orchestration is mature enough for me to replace my external orchestration systems and if I have those systems setup then there is no point loosing the benefits of approach 2. However, when amazon allows us to connect ELBs directly to docker containers and makes a few more improvements I will seriously reconsider.

this will help Docker automatically downloads the base image you specify in your Dockerfile. So, for example, a really simple "hello-world" image could be;
contents of your Dockerfile:
code :
FROM alpine
CMD echo "hello-world"
docker build -t hello .
Sending build context to Docker daemon 2.048 kB
Step 1 : FROM alpine
 ---> 70c557e50ed6
Step 2 : CMD echo "hello world"
 ---> Running in 94fcb9b89aaa
 ---> 6462a272b1d6
Removing intermediate container 94fcb9b89aaa
Successfully built 6462a272b1d6
$ docker run hello
hello world

This might help you The FROM line in your Dockerfile can point to any image. It may be an upstream image from the Docker hub, one on any other registry server including one you self host, or it may be another image you've built locally on your own docker build host. Lastly, it may be FROM scratch which starts without any base image, and is used by other base images at some point in their history.

I wish this help you Have you ever built the base-image without that software? Then, it might be a caching problem of docker images, i.e. your child image is based on an old cached version of the base-image.
Verify that the following hashes match:

should help you out This would be a great feature, unfortunately it seems like the Docker team has de-prioritized it. Refer to: https://github.com/moby/moby/issues/3465
For now, Docker copy edit may be your best option depending on your use case. https://github.com/gdraheim/docker-copyedit

like below fixes the issue With ubuntu you can run a django app. you just have to install the dependencies for it (with instructions in your Dockerfile for example).
In your Dockerfile, add something like :
