Any of those help This is pretty OS dependent. On UNIX OSes (Linux, Mac OS) the xdg-open and open commands might do what you want.
Assuming the path to the file is in the path_to_file variable, you could use:
code :
import subprocess
subprocess.check_call(["open", path_to_file])      # Mac OS
subprocess.check_call(["xdg-open", path_to_file])  # Linux OSes

This might help you Here is a non-jQuery solution. Note you can't just use .click() as some browsers do not support it.
code :
<script type="text/javascript">
function performClick(elemId) {
   var elem = document.getElementById(elemId);
   if(elem && document.createEvent) {
      var evt = document.createEvent("MouseEvents");
      evt.initEvent("click", true, false);
<a href="#" onclick="performClick('theFile');">Open file dialog</a>
<input type="file" id="theFile" />

With these it helps Take a look at the various widgets in tkFileDialog. They could be very useful. Particularly, you might want askopenfilename which will pop up a dialog where you can browse for a particular file -- When the user hits OK it returns a filename which you can do whatever you want with.
