To fix the issue you can do I have the following regex that isn't working. I want to match the string 'www.example.com' but not the string 'http://www.example.com' (or 'anythingwww.example.com' for that matter): , Perhaps something like this?
code :
text = text.replace(/(^|\s)(www(?:\.\w+){2,})/ig, "$1http://$2");

I hope this helps you . The ? is the 0-1 quantifier in Regexes. \d? means 0 or 1 digit. The * is the 0-infinite quantifier. \d* means 0 or more digits. Is it what you want? (additionally the + is the 1 or more quantifier, and not quantifier means exactly 1)
To elaborate on what you asked, I would say
code :
question(_\d+)?

I wish this help you I'm newer to more advanced regex concepts and am starting to look into look behinds and lookaheads but I'm getting confused and need some guidance. I have a scenario in which I may have several different kind of release zips named something like: , We can use the following regex:
code :
(v\d+(?:\.\d+)*)(?:[-]([A-Za-z]+))?((?:\.\d+)*)\.zip
rgx = re.compile(r'(v\d+(?:\.\d+)*)([-][A-Za-z]+)?((?:\.\d+)*)\.zip')
>>> rgx.findall('v1.1.2-beta.2.zip')
[('v1.1.2', '-beta', '.2')]
>>> rgx.findall('v1.1.2.zip')
[('v1.1.2', '', '')]

wish helps you Zeeshan!
The Regex Engine Always Returns the Leftmost Match This is a very important point to understand: a regex engine always returns the leftmost match, even if a "better" match could be found later. When applying a regex to a string, the engine starts at the first character of the string. It tries all possible permutations of the regular expression at the first character. Only if all possibilities have been tried and found to fail, does the engine continue with the second character in the text. Again, it tries all possible permutations of the regex, in exactly the same order. The result is that the regex engine returns the leftmost match.
