it fixes the issue The simple way is doing this in a BaseActivity in Java code, and all other activities inherit this BaseActivity, but it seems those activity's attributes can not be applied programmatically. Check here
If you feel tedious of typing these attributes, I suggest you to utilize the editor to finish your job, such as XML code snippet or other methods.

it helps some times Each Activity, BroadcastReceiver, and Service in your AndroidManifest.xml has an Intent Filter that specifies how it interacts with the Android Environment. For example, BroadcastReceivers can specify what broadcast events it is listening to.
Activities can specify things like how they are seen in the home screen, or what files extensions can be opened in the app. Some apps don't have Activities or Intent Filters - and just use Services and BroadcastReceivers. If an app does use one or more Activities, the developer can optionally add the Intent Filter - but this is not required. If the user wants to provide a launcher for the user to be able to open the app, he or she must use this Intent Filter:
code :
<intent-filter>
    <action android:name="android.intent.action.MAIN" />
    <category android:name="android.intent.category.LAUNCHER" />
</intent-filter>
<application
    android:icon="@drawable/ic_launcher"
    android:label="@string/app_name"
    android:theme="@style/AppTheme" >
    <activity
        android:name=".MainActivity"
        android:label="@string/app_title" >
        <intent-filter>
            <action android:name="android.intent.action.MAIN" />
            <category android:name="android.intent.category.LAUNCHER" />
        </intent-filter>
    </activity>
    <activity
        android:name=".OtherActivity"
        android:label="@string/other_title"
        android:icon="@drawable/ic_other_launcher" >
        <intent-filter>
            <action android:name="android.intent.action.MAIN" />
            <category android:name="android.intent.category.LAUNCHER" />
        </intent-filter>
    </activity>
</application>

this will help android:name is supposed to have reference of your class path which represents the activity. It must not contain any special characters or spaces.
For example:
code :
android:name="com.json.test.MainActivity"

I hope this helps you . I want to change my manifest so that the Login Activity is the first activity to start on the phone. The login activity checks the sharedpreferences to see if a user has login info saved. If they do it logs them in. Im pretty sure I need an intent-filter in login activity with but I dont get what I should put for the action. , Your MainActivity need to look like this:
code :
<activity
        android:name=".MainActivity"
        android:label="@string/app_name" >
        <intent-filter>
            <action android:name="com.yourpacgagename.MAINACTIVITY" />

            <category android:name="android.intent.category.DEFAULT" />
        </intent-filter>
    </activity>
<activity
        android:name=".LoginActivity"
        android:label="@string/app_name" >
        <intent-filter>
            <action android:name="android.intent.action.MAIN" />

            <category android:name="android.intent.category.LAUNCHER" />
        </intent-filter>
    </activity>
