Ruby regex to split user and date text input

Ruby regex to split user and date text input

should help you out i have user and date data combined in a string. i tried splitting on ' ' (whitespace), but some of the users have spaces in their names. i believe i have a working solution, but don't think it's best practice; i was hoping somebody could point me in the right direction. i'm guessing there is a better way to implement some form of regex. thanks.
code :
(?<User>.*?)(?<Date>\s+\d+\/\d+\/\d{4}.*$)

I think the issue was by ths following , You need to escape the input: http://www.ruby-doc.org/core/classes/Regexp.html
See the method escape.
code :
 Regexp.escape(your_input)

will be helpful for those in need I am using the below regex to split a text at certain ending punctuation however it doesn't work with quotes.
code :
text.scan(/"(?>[^"\\]+|\\{2}|\\.)*"|\S.*?[...!!??]/)
"             # literal: a double quote
(?> # open an atomic group: all that can be between quotes
    [^"\\]+ # all that is not a quote or a backslash
  |           # OR
    \\{2} # 2 backslashes (the idea is to skip even numbers of backslashes)
  |           # OR
    \\. # an escaped character (in particular a double quote)
)* # repeat zero or more times the atomic group
"             # literal double quote
|             # OR
\S.*?[...!!??]
text.scan(/(['"])(?>[^'"\\]+|\\{2}|\\.|(?!\1)["'])*\1|\S.*?[...!!??]/)

Any of those help I've done everything I can to find the answer to this problem and I'm sure it is simple so forgive me. I have an input string of upper case letters, no spaces, no line feeds, nothing else but letters from A-Z. I'm trying just to split it into letter pairs using Regex.Split. This is what other posts and regex info says it should be , Imagine you have
code :
//              1       10        20        30        40
string input = "ABCDEFGHIJABCDEFGHIJABCDEFGHIJABCDEFGHIJ";
var letterPairs = Regex.Split(input, "(.{0,2})").Where(p => !string.IsNullOrEmpty(p)).ToList();
Console.WriteLine("["+String.Join(",", letterPairs)+"]");
// => [AB,CD,EF,GH,IJ,AB,CD,EF,GH,IJ,AB,CD,EF,GH,IJ,AB,CD,EF,GH,IJ]
var letterPairs = Regex.Split(input, ".{0,2}(.{0,2})").Where(p => !string.IsNullOrEmpty(p)).ToList();
var letterPairs = Regex.Split(input, "(.{0,2}).{0,2}").Where(p => !string.IsNullOrEmpty(p)).ToList();
