it should still fix some issue After some work I found how to achieve to access the selected points in Paraview without generating that weird error mentioned above.
Here is the code:
code :
import paraview
import paraview.simple

proxy = paraview.simple.GetActiveSource()

if proxy is None:
    print "Proxy is None"
    return

active_selection = proxy.GetSelectionInput(proxy.Port)

if active_selection is None:
    print "No selection is active"
    return

print "Selected points: %s" % (active_selection.IDs)
print "Amount of points: %s" % (len(active_selection.IDs) / 2)
Selected points: [0, 14, 0, 15, 0, 16, 0, 20, 0, 21, 0, 22]
Amount of points: 6

Fixing NameError: NameError: name 'key_p' is not defined?

this one helps. Using global tells python to use the global variable called key_p, it does not initialize it.
You should initialize your global variables in the global scope first. Then use global keyword on each function.
code :
key_dict = {'Key_Pressed':[key_p],
            'Key_Time':[key_pt],
            'Key_Released':[key_r],
            'Release_Time':[key_rt]}

I wish this help you You should be referring to pd.NaT and pd.Timestamp:
code :
inp=[{'c1':10,'cols':{'c2':5,'c3':pd.NaT}, 'c4':'41'}, {'c1':11,'cols':{'c2':pd.Timestamp('2014-06-03 21:19:26'),'c3':'str2'},'c4':'42'}, {'c1':12,'cols':{'c2':20,'c3':'str3'},'c4':'43'}]

this one helps. The size of the picture is based on the size of the view, so you just need to change the size of the view as follows:
