seems to work fine You called your file socket.py rename it to somethng like my_socket.py and delete the socket.pyc file in the same directory.
You are trying to import from your socket.py file not the actual socket module, python checks the local directory first.

Creating raw socket in Python without root privileges

Creating raw socket in Python without root privileges

it fixes the issue As you noted raw sockets require higher privilege than a regular user have. You can circumvent this issue in two ways:
Activating the SUID bit for the file with a command like chmod +s file and set its owner to root with chown root.root file. This will run your script as root, regardless of the effective user that executed it. Of course this could be dangerous if your script has some flaw. Setting the CAP_NET_RAW capability on the given file with a command like setcap cap_net_raw+ep file. This will give it only the privileges required to open a raw socket and nothing else.

wish helps you setblocking only affects the socket you use it on. So you have to add conn.setblocking(0) to see an effect: The recv will then return immediately if there is no data available.

I hope this helps . If you look at the documentation, you'll see that the proper call is socket.socket().
To find out what this is, use the type function on it:
code :
In [1]: import socket

In [2]: type(socket.socket)
Out[2]: type
from socket import socket
sock = socket()
Creating an SSL socket with python

fixed the issue. Will look into that further socket.ssl is only able to initiate a SSL connection and the given optional cert and key are for use of client certificates. socket.ssl is not able to be used on the server side and it looks like python 2.4.4 does not offer this feature in any of the core modules at all. In later versions of python you can use the ssl module for this but 2.4.4 does not seem to have this.

With these it helps You named your program file socket.py, so this file is imported, instead of the standard library module. Rename your file, remove any socket.pyc and try again.
