I hope this helps you . You should update to the latest Appium (1.3.4) as this behaviour is fixed now. Also make sure you're using the latest appium_lib gem too.
$ npm update -g appium

With these it helps try element.send_keys("+123456789"). Make sure you have the correct locator. Please do mention error message in the details.

This might help you When you create the OutputStream the file is being truncated to 0 bytes. Infect you do not have any properties read. Try this:
code :
public void saveSetting(String nameOfSetting, String settingValue) {
    try {
        InputStream inputStream = new FileInputStream(this.settingsFileName);
        Properties programProperties = new Properties();
        programProperties.load(inputStream);
        inputStream.close();
        OutputStream outputStream = new FileOutputStream(this.settingsFileName);
        programProperties.setProperty(nameOfSetting, settingValue);
        programProperties.store(outputStream, null);
        outputStream.close();
    }
    catch (Exception errorException) {
        Common.errorEncountered(errorException, "An error occured while trying to load a setting from the file " + this.settingsFileName + ".");
    }
}

I hope this helps you . From what I've understood, this is less a problem with "updating" but more a problem with the layout of your schema and models. You're getting your columns a little mixed up by the looks of it.
By what you've said in the question it seems like you're doing this:
code :
| TrakingStatus |        | ParcelTracking   |
|---------------|        |------------------|
| Id            |        | TrackingId       |
| ...           |--------| TrackingStatusId |
|               |        | ...              |
| TrakingStatus |          | ParcelStatuses  |              | ParcelTracking   |
|---------------|          |-----------------|              |------------------|
| Id            | -------- | TrackingId      | *-----------1| TrackingId       |
| ...           |          | TrackingStatusId|              | ...              |

Hope that helps I have a form that adds rows into a datatable. So i create the datatable: , You do it like this:
code :
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
    //check if it is a postback
    if (!Page.IsPostBack)
    {
        //create a new table
        DataTable vendas = new DataTable();

        //add some columns
        vendas.Columns.Add("Nome");
        vendas.Columns.Add("Morada");

        //add the datatable to the viewstate
        ViewState["vendas"] = vendas;
    }
    else
    {
        //check if the viewstate exits and cast it back to a datatable
        if (ViewState["vendas"] != null)
        {
            vendas = ViewState["vendas"] as DataTable;
        }
    }
}

Hope that helps I'm using Python 2.7 and selenium is 3.4.3: , Use the following code for your case:
code :
search_field = self.driver.find_element(By.ID ,'Searchbox')
time.sleep(10)
search_field.send_keys('test')

search_button = self.driver.find_element(By.CSS_SELECTOR, '.btn.btn-small.btn-warning')
time.sleep(10)
search_button.click()
