fixed the issue. Will look into that further Per the comments (@gniourf_gniourf, @shelter, @Wintermute) I decided to simply switch tools to rsync. Thankfully the syntax doesn't need to be changed at all.
23 was the error code I was getting when files didn't exist so here is the code I ended up with
code :
rsync -q $user@$host:/etc/$file ./$host/conf/ 2>/tmp/Error 1>/dev/null
if [[ $? -eq 23 ]]; then echo -e "$file not found on $host"; continue; fi

Hope this helps I have two codes, the first picks up a full name (first and Surname) of the user and prints in a display box as "Doe, John".
code :
Private Sub Worksheet_BeforeDoubleClick(ByVal Target As Range, Cancel As Boolean)

Set objAD = CreateObject("ADSystemInfo")
Set objUser = GetObject("LDAP://" & objAD.Username)
strDisplayName = objUser.DisplayName

If Not Application.Intersect(Range("E6:N9000"), Target) Is Nothing Then
    If Target = "NA" Then
        Cancel = True
        Exit Sub
    Else
        If Target = vbNullString Then
            Target = strDisplayName & " " & Format(Now, "DD/MM/yy HH:MM:ss")
            Target.Interior.ColorIndex = 43
            Cancel = True
        Else
            If Target <> vbNullString Then
                Target = ""
                Target.Interior.ColorIndex = 0
                Cancel = True
            End If
        End If
    End If
End If
End Sub

Any of those help You are using strings, where the logging enums would be more appropriate.
for example
code :
class classA:

    def __init__(self, logLevel = logging.INFO):

        #stuff
        #initialize logger
        self.logger.setLevel(logLevel)
def getLogLevel(logLevel):
    if logLevel == 'info':
        return logging.INFO
    elif .......

it fixes the issue It's a two step process. First inside your PowerShell wrapper script you need to pass back the $LASTEXITCODE back out by Exiting with the $LASTEXITCODE from the .exe utility e.g.
code :
$exe = "myExe.exe"
$ArgumentList = "/arst"

& $exe $ArgumentList

$Result = $LASTEXITCODE

#....

Exit $Result
powershell.exe -Command ". C:\MyScript.ps1; exit $LASTEXITCODE"

will help you Array.push returns the number of items in the array after that push is completed. it returns the equivalent of Array.length().
See ref hre https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/JavaScript/Reference/Global_Objects/Array/push

I wish did fix the issue. You are not returning the derived class objects you are creating in letterFactory. Instead you are returning a base class object as a sliced copy of the derived class object that you declared in the function.
Calling myMethod on this returned object will call the implementation in SuperClass, because its most-derived type will be SuperClass.
code :
std::unique_ptr<SuperClass> letterFactory(){
    if (which == "A") {
        return std::make_unique<SubClassA>();
    } else if (which == "B") {
        return std::make_unique<SubClassB>();
    } else {
        throw std::invalid_argument("Bad");
    }
}
