may help you . You are likely initializing the property on page load. The reference to the property is tied to the instance of the page which existed on page load. After the server delivered the initial page to you, the class was eligible for garbage collection.
I believe you are seeing a race condition between how long it takes the user to do the postback on the page and how long it takes the server to collect the first instance of the class.

will be helpful for those in need For the specific question "Will pClass be garbage collected": the event subscription has no effect on the collection of pClass (as the publisher).
For GC in general (in particular, the target): it depends whether MyFunction is static or instance-based.
code :
publisher.SomeEvent += target.SomeHandler;

wish helps you Given that you're not actually using much of the functionality of BackgroundWorker, I would recommend using the TPL for this instead:
code :
private void DownLoadFile(string fileLocation)
{
    Task.Factory.StartNew( () => Download(fileLocation))
        .ContinueWith(t => ReportResult(t.Result), TaskScheduler.FromCurrentSynchronizationContext());
}

I hope this helps . It depends a bit on why your backgroundworker is public. But if your ViewModel class is the only class holding a strong reference to the background worker, and the background worker is holding a hard reference to the viewmodel (via the two events), both will be marked for garbage collection once the view model is not hold by any reference anymore.

I think the issue was by ths following , No, instances of MyModel will be disposed of fine. What MyModel stores is a reference to something that happens to be in-use elsewhere (namely in AlbumsHelper).
References are one-way where garbage collection is concerned. So a reference from Foo to Bar will keep the Foo alive so long as the Bar lives. The other way around means nothing.

I hope this helps you . From the question it's hard to tell where the leak is coming from. Let the leak happen for a while, then attach to the process with windbg (part of the Debugging Tools For Windows) (Note: you may need to build x86 or x64 for this to work.)
Once you've attached, set up for .net debugging by entering the commands:
