fixed the issue. Will look into that further As a licensed developer, you can download versions of Xcode at the Downloads for Apple Developers page.
You need Xcode 6.1 to develop with the iOS 8.1 SDK. Xcode 6.1 requires Mac OS X 10.9.4 (Mavericks) or later according to the App Store. The aforementioned Downloads page confirms that it requires Mavericks or Yosemite.

seems to work fine Intel-based Mac (can be a Mac Mini; I prefer a MacBook Pro that I can take with me and develop in a variety of locations, office, a playground while kids play, when I travel...) Xcode (free download)
Optional software I use all the time:

this will help Firstly, there is an issue with the ADT plugin and Helios which causes lag with looking up Android classes - use Galileo instead (v3.5).
Secondly, the emulators become more resource hungry depending on the version of Android you're developing for. Example, I have a P4 2.4GHz, 1GB RAM PC with Win XP 32-bit and an Android v2.2 emulator takes at least 4-5 minutes to load up. An Android v1.6 emulator on the other hand loads up in less than 1 minute. Remember though that once the emulator is up and running, you can leave it loaded and it will be more responsive than first use.

this one helps. You didn't mention whether you're developing web app or native apps for iPhone. If you're only planning to develop web app, your hardware requirement is lower. If instead you're planning to develop native app, a current Intel Mac Mini running 10.6 (or newer) is a good starting point. My suggestion is to invest in RAM rather than hard disk since you can always get an affordably-priCed external hard drive.
I wouldn't recommend a hackintosh unless you don't mind occasionally having to troubleshoot why things don't work when they're supposed to.

it should still fix some issue Storyboards introduced in OSX Yosemite are not backwards compatible.
Using storyboards, your app can only support OSX Yosemite and later.

Any of those help Lots of people will downvote this answer but still, I will tell you that the device depends on the type of app you are building and the features you want in the app. If you are building a selfie camera app, the device needs to have a front-facing camera or if your app uses NFC the device needs NFC support. From the software point, you need to look at the Android version to see if the feature you want to develop is supported in your device. Low end device will be helpful in making a better app as you would have to worry about memory and CPU constraints, But I would suggest getting 2-3 devices of various types
