Need file dialog for code running in Enthought Canopy

I wish this help you Depends on what GUI backend you are using in your program. If your program also uses TK elsewhere, then follow the instructions in the link that Warren provided. If all you need is this dialog (and similar), Chuck's suggestion is probably easiest (especially since Qt is the default backend for IPython kernel that Canopy uses). I'm no Qt guru but I think you can simplify Chuck's suggestion to:
code :
from PySide import QtGui
fname, _ = QtGui.QFileDialog.getOpenFileName(None, 'Choose file','.')

I hope this helps . The installer does not generate the ~/Enthought directory. It is created during first startup. More info here: http://docs.enthought.com/canopy/configure/faq.html#where-are-all-of-the-python-packages-in-my-user-python-environment

may help you . This is a known issue which has been fixed for the next release of Canopy (coming soon.) In the meantime you should be able to workaround the issue by editing the 1st line in the winpdb script and setting it to use pythonw command instead of python. For example, change this line:
code :
Running Enthought Canopy Python as root cannot import pandas

wish helps you It sounds like sudo is not using your current PATH settings to locate the executable to run. IIRC this is a configuration option for sudo, whether to use a limited default PATH or not.
An easy way to work around this is to specify the full path to the python excutable that you want to execute. For example, if you've activated a Canopy virtual environment, then you can do it like this:
Running a .py code from Command Line Argument, using Enthought Canopy

like below fixes the issue I have prepared a Python script which reads from Excel files: , Your file's name is also an argument.
Which means,

fixed the issue. Will look into that further Maybe too late as you may already have saolved your problem. But I get the same problem after installing.
Did you install a standalone version of python and have a PYTHONPATH variable already defined?
