should help you out I want to regex test a CSV string in JavaScript. The CSV is basically a list of article tags. Each tag can only contain lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens. They also have to be 2-24 characters in length and there must be between 2 and 24 tags. The CSV must also NOT end with a comma. , Use the regex pattern
code :
^(?:[-a-z0-9]{2,24}(?:,(?=.)|$)){2,24}$

Hope this helps You could negative lookahead for ^ when matching a dash, and alternate with [^\d-] (note that - doesn't need to be escaped in a character set):
code :
stringToReplace.replace(/(?!^)-|[^\d-]/g, '')
const stringToReplace = '-12gh4-5';
const result = stringToReplace.replace(
  /^(-)?(.*)/,
  (_, start, rest) => start + rest.replace(/\D+/g, '')
);
console.log(result);
