Using awk to find data matching date range in text file

Using awk to find data matching date range in text file

fixed the issue. Will look into that further Bad news: Standard awk doesn't have date handling capabilities, and date handling is a hit or miss affair for shell scripts. Both GNU and BSD versions of the date command can use the date command to check a date, but both use completely different syntax for doing so.
If you're using gawk or Linux with awk, you can try the mktime function:
code :
date="20141225011522"   # December 25, 2014 at 1:15:22
date_in_seconds = mktime( date )

wish help you to fix your issue OK, I think first and foremost - your problem is that range operator is the wrong way around, because CSeq: 3 REGISTER comes before Session Initiation Protocol \(REGISTER\) in the file.
But you've commented with some test results:
code :
#!/usr/bin/perl

use strict;
use warnings;
my $file = "output.txt";

my $kw1 = "Session Initiation Protocol (REGISTER)";
my $kw2 = "CSeq: 3 REGISTER";

while (<DATA>) {

   if ( /\Q$kw2\E/ ... /\Q$kw1\E/ ) {
      print;
   }
}

__DATA__
CSeq: 3 REGISTER
Session Initiation Protocol (REGISTER)
                Temp
                Temp
                Session Initiation Protocol (REGISTER)
        Session Initiation Protocol (REGISTER)
CSeq: 2 REGISTER
CSeq: 1 REGISTER
CSeq: 0 REGISTER
if ( /\Q$kw2\E/ ... /\s\Q$kw1\E/ )

this one helps. Use ABS to get the difference between the dates as a positive number. If you simply want to delete from the history table, use EXISTS to look up the current orders table.
code :
delete
from order_history h
where exists
(
  select *
  from current_order c
  where c.order_name = h.order_name
    and c.consumer_name = h.consumer_name
    and abs(c.order_date - h.order_date) <= 14
);

hop of those help? There are three problems: first, you have not actually opened the file. So, for i in "file.txt" actually returns the letters "f", "i", ... in each loop iteration. Second, your regular expression is looking for DD-MM-YYYY, which is not present in your sample file. Lastly, match is not a string that you can print. Instead, this code works:
code :
import re
myfile = open("file.txt", "r")
for i in myfile:
    match = re.match(r'\d{4}$', i[:-1])
    print(match.string)

I hope this helps . I'm looking for a solution where I want to find a price that was valid at a specific time range and insert the result in a transaction table. The price table only have a date stamp when the price was updated and price changes creates a new row with a new date.
code :
 SELECT
          t.ID
        , t.Date
        , t.ArtNo
        , t.SellPrice
        , pr.Price

FROM TRANS t
OUTER APPLY ( SELECT TOP (1) p.Price
              FROM Price p
              WHERE p.ArtNo = t.ArtNo
                AND p.Date <=t.Date
              ORDER BY p.Date DESC
            ) pr(Price)
