I wish this help you The problem is that you're loading the image using sone background threading technique, and the first time you do so, it has to presumably fetch the image from somewhere, the second time it presumably has a cached version so it can run the completion block immediately.
Why should this matter?

UIImageView masks and bottom alignment

UIImageView masks and bottom alignment

I hope this helps you . You will need to set the frame of your image view such that the bottom of the image view is aligned with the bottom of your cell.
You will also need to ensure the contentview of you cell is clipping content to its bounds (setClipToBounds to yes).

I hope this helps you . to Kurt, I refined a little bit my code and got what I wanter :)
code :
CGPathAddArc(path, NULL, 44, 44, 21, 0, 2 * M_PI, NO);

CAShapeLayer *shapeLayer = [[CAShapeLayer alloc] init];
[shapeLayer setPath:path];
[shapeLayer setFillColor:[[UIColor blackColor] CGColor]];
[shapeLayer setBounds:CGRectMake(0, 0, 44, 44)];
[shapeLayer setPosition:CGPointMake(0, 0)];

UIView *loadingView = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(6.5, 7.5, 44, 44)];

UIImageView *loadingShape = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0, 18, 89, 40)];
[loadingShape setImage:[UIImage imageNamed:@"object_image.png"]];
[[loadingView layer] setMask:shapeLayer];
[loadingView addSubview:loadingShape];
[self addSubview:loadingView];
// Set the mask for the image view's layer

CABasicAnimation* anim = [[CABasicAnimation alloc] init];
anim.fromValue = [NSValue valueWithCGPoint:CGPointMake(0, 18)];
anim.toValue = [NSValue valueWithCGPoint:CGPointMake(15, 18)];
anim.keyPath = @"position";
anim.timingFunction = [CAMediaTimingFunction functionWithName:@"linear"];
anim.duration = 0.3;
anim.repeatCount = 100000;
[[loadingShape layer] addAnimation:anim forKey:nil];
Converting location into binary masks and filtering the image with such masks

To fix the issue you can do Say that we have an image which pixels were labeled 1 and 2. How can we do the following in MATLAB? , Example:
code :
% some RGB image
img = im2double(imread('peppers.png'));
[h,w,~] = size(img);

% lets create some random labels. I'm simply dividing into two halves,
% where upper half is labeled 1, and lower half labeled 2
labels = [ones(h/2,w)*1; ones(h/2,w)*2];

% compute masks and filter image using each
img1 = bsxfun(@times, img, labels==1);
img2 = bsxfun(@times, img, labels==2);

% show result
subplot(121), imshow(img1)
subplot(122), imshow(img2)

this one helps. Your problem is that cell can be re-layout after cellForItemAtIndexPath: and size of cell will be changed after it.
Solutions for you: 1) Put cell.photo.layer.cornerRadius = cell.photo.bounds.size.width / 2; into
code :
- (void)collectionView:(UICollectionView *)collectionView willDisplayCell:(UICollectionViewCell *)cell forItemAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath
- (void)layoutSubviews {
    [super layoutSubviews];
    self.photo.layer.cornerRadius = self.frame.size.width / 2.0;
How to round an UIImageView with Autoresizing Masks?

may help you . I have found with UITableViewCell that you get strange affects related to size classes when you show rounded images in cells. This is especially the case if you use different size constraints for images on iPad say versus iPhone. To fix this I add the following to my cell class. self.myImageView is my cells UIImageView that I want to be round.
This also makes sure you pick up the latest changes in the image frame if it changes during layout.
code :
- (void) layoutSubviews
    [super layoutSubviews];

    // Make the image round using the latest frame size.
    CALayer *l=[self.myImageView layer];
    [l setMasksToBounds:YES];
    [l setCornerRadius:self.myImageView.frame.size.width/2];

    // No border just now
    [l setBorderWidth:0.0];
    [l setBorderColor:[[UIColor blackColor] CGColor]];
