like below fixes the issue Initialize your ObjectOutputStream before your ObjectInputSteam on your server.
When you initialize an ObjectInputStream, it waits for "header" data. Your server is waiting for that header data. You need to initialize your ObjectOutputStream first (which sends the header data), THEN your ObjectInputStream.

around this issue Mina is a good choice as a network application framework for building a simple server for this purpose - it's a much better option than using raw sockets.

like below fixes the issue Single threads means 1 thread. Multi threading means multiple threads. What this means in term of your chat server is:
If you have a single threaded server only 1 connection can be made to the server. Multithreading will allow you to create a new thread each time a new chat client connects and issue its own Input/output stream to send and receive chat messages.

it helps some times My suggestion is to use an ObjectStream, to output the variable or the integer. You can use the readObject() method on the ObjectInputStream to read an object, and use getClass or instanceOf to determine what it's an instance of.
For example: Object o = objectInputStream.readObject(); if (o instanceof String) { System.out.println("It's a string!"); } else if(o instanceof Integer) { System.out.println("It's an integer"); }

I wish this help you When the client terminates, the readLine on server side will result in the end of the stream. So if you want the server to continuously listen for new connections the simply put the above server code in a endless loop.
e.g.
code :
while (true) {
   // above code
}
