Structure pointer pointing to different structure instance

Structure pointer pointing to different structure instance

Any of those help It's likely that both structs have the same element-wise alignment: sizeof(first_struct) == sizeof(second_struct) and: int e starts at the same offset in the struct as: int b
In other words, char d is effectively stored as an int in terms of layout. It's simply a lucky coincidence on your platform, and will not work portably.

I think the issue was by ths following , Hey! I know title of question is very scary but I still I am not able to express the problem in single line!
code :

#define STRUCT_ONE 1
#define STRUCT_TWO 2

struct LinkList
 {
   int NodeNum;
   int NodeType;
   union
    {
      StructONE * Ptr_One;
      StructTWO * Ptr_Two;
    };

 };

................

   if(NodePtr->NodeType==STRUCT_ONE)
     {
        free(NodePtr->Ptr_One);
        TempNode->Next=NodePtr->Next;
        free(NodePtr);
        return;
     }
    else
     {
        free(NodePtr->Ptr_Two->DataPtr);
        ....
     }

I think the issue was by ths following , No, there's no issue with pair, it's with key (and the count, too). The pointer is used uninitialized which invokes undefined behavior.
At the point where you;re trying to dereference key
code :
 *(pair->key) = key;

I wish this help you Not in general, no. Pointers don't carry any additional meta information besides their value, at run-time. You cannot inspect memory and figure out what it is holding (you can try by decorating your data with magic numbers).
Also, your code is scary since if all the pointers are used, it will run out of bounds. You must make sure i is less than N in the loop, and exit when all pointers have been checked.

this one helps.
In the structure made above, how does the compiler decide how much of space should be allocated in memory when we instantiate it?

wish helps you That's hardly surprising. In writing _sock_t *_sock all you've done is declare a pointer.
But it doesn't point to anything. The behaviour on dereferencing it (in your case via the pointer to member operator ->) is undefined.
