will help you Ruby 1.9.2/YARV 1.9.2 has massively improved non-ASCII filename support on Windows. You can read all about it in bug #1685: Some windows unicode path issues remain.
However, it is still possible that it will work for you on 1.9.1 if you don't hit any of the bugs.

With these it helps os.walk(u'.') is the normal way to get native-Unicode filenames and it should work fine; it does for me.
Your problem is here instead:

This might help you Im quite new to batch programming and i wanted to remove the last characters on my filename. , With your recent clarification - I would do the following.

Does that help From the list that you are not certain of, they are all prohibited except +, {, }. To escape characters in regular expressions, use \, e.g., since $ is the end-of-string anchor regexp, use \$ to match a literal $. Alternatively, instead of $name -replace '+','_', you might consider $name.replace("+","_"), which does not use regexp.
