may help you . Java only allows assignments and calls where a statement is expected, not arbitrary expressions.
From section 14.8 of the JLS:

Hope this helps When using the pipe operator %>% with packages such as dplyr, ggvis, dycharts, etc, how do I do a step conditionally? For example; , Here is a quick example that takes advantage of the . and ifelse:
code :

X %>% add(1) %>% { ifelse(Y ,add(.,1), . ) }
X %>%
add(1) %>%
 {if(Y) add(.,1) else .}

should help you out The evaluation order of ?: is guaranteed: the first operand is evaluated first, then evaluate the second or the third operand depending on whether the first operand is true.
You are mainly confused about the relationship between operator precedence/associativity and order of evaluation. They play different roles. The former decides how operators are grouped, while the latter decides which sub-expression is evaluated first.
code :
1 ? a++ : b ? c++ : d;
1 ? a++ : (b ? c++ : d);

hope this fix your issue Your problem is operator precedence. + ranks higher than != and ?:. Your line that is not working could be also written like this:
code :
string test1 = ("abc" + instance) != null ? instance.IntValue.ToString() : "0";
string test1 = "abc" + (instance != null ? instance.IntValue.ToString() : "0");
