wish help you to fix your issue If I understand your problem correctly, you need move the input step out of the for loop. Is this what you want:
code :
words_list=["hi", "my","name","is"]

subs2=[]
addpair1=input("Enter a symbol you would like to replace:")
addpair2=input("What letter would you like to replace it with:")

for word in words_list:
    tempword = (word)
    tempword = tempword.replace('#','A')
    tempword = tempword.replace('*', 'M')
    tempword = tempword.replace('%', 'N')
    tempword=tempword.replace(addpair1,addpair2)
    print(tempword)
    subs2.append(tempword)
print subs2

#Enter a symbol you would like to replace:"i"
#What letter would you like to replace it with:"j"
#hj
#my
#name
#js
#['hj', 'my', 'name', 'js']

hope this fix your issue Don't use ANSI codes. Use proper terminfo-based techniques. Xterm-based terminals are not specified to support all ANSI codes. Some do for compatibility, some don't.
Save cursor position sequence is given by the tput sc command and the restore cursor position is tput rc.
code :
echo -e "$(tput sc)Hello world$(tput rc)G'day"
infocmp | grep --color ' [sr]c='

fixed the issue. Will look into that further I'm fairly new to Python, and I'm working on a few things that would involve names. Something such as:
code :
name = raw_input ("What is your name?: ")
print "Hello, " + name + "!"

this one helps. , Don't put your variables in quotes. Instead of
code :
print("So, you're '%r' old, '%r' tall and weigh '%r' ") % ('age, height weight')
print("So, you're '%r' old, '%r' tall and weigh '%r' " % (age, height weight))

wish helps you To get started writing tests, you can simply create a file called test.py, which will contain your first test case.
You’ll find that, as you add more and more tests, your single file will become cluttered and hard to maintain, so you can create a folder called tests/ and split the tests into multiple files. It is a convention to ensure each file starts with test_ so all test runners will assume that Python file contains tests to be executed. Some very large projects split tests into more subdirectories based on their purpose or usage.

To fix this issue You can take Math.sqrt(number) out of the while loop. It is a heavy operation when n is large.
For loops are faster than while loops in Python Why is looping over range() in Python faster than using a while loop?
