Hope this helps The issue was with another import. I am using IntelliJ, and SBT importing failed silently with no errors until I used the 'SBT tasks' pane and the 'Refresh all SBT projects' button. Once the offending import was gone, everything works again.

fixed the issue. Will look into that further First, get rid of your java.lang imports.
Second, call setPort with an int and not a String as described in the API.

will be helpful for those in need I'm getting back into Java and reviewing some of my old code and I'm seeing a lot of places where I have done , You import awt if you use awt types, no more, no less.

I think the issue was by ths following , You can download the rabbitmq-java-client-bin-3.5.4.zip from official link here . Then extract the rabbitmq-client.jar from the zip & add it to your class path in project. Then you will be able to resolve The import "com.rabbitmq". Give it a try.

it should still fix some issue It's Scala. So use import java.io._ instead of import java.io.*.
import java.io.* tries to import * (which is valid identifier in Scala) from java.io and since it is not present, fails.
