around this issue An answer in this question - Does StringBuilder use more memory than String concatenation? - states 'a few dozen' is the threshold.
And linked from another answer in that question is this link - http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/2009/01/the-sad-tragedy-of-micro-optimization-theater.html - which concludes with "it doesn't matter"!

will help you I currently have a list (array) predefined and I am looking to add information into the array utilizing the split function. I want to keep the original items in the array. Here is my sample code: , Use slice assignment:
code :
mylist[:4] = szResult.split()

it fixes the issue Firstly, this has nothing to do with System.out.println. You'll see exactly the same effect if you use:
code :
String x = 7 + 5 + "";
String y = " " + 5 + 7;
String x = (7 + 5) + "";
String y = (" " + 5) + 7;
int x1 = 7 + 5;      // 12   (integer addition)
String x = x1 + "";  // "12" (conversion to string, then string concatenation)

String y1 = " " + 5; // "5"  (conversion to string, then string concatenation)
String y = y1 + 7;   // "57" (conversion to string, then string concatenation)
