How to display a string received with an intent?

How to display a string received with an intent?

seems to work fine I was about to go through the Training on developer.android.com, to learn how to pass an intent with an EXTRA (a string in this case) to another activity and display it in that second activity. From the Training I understood how to create and pass on the intent, but not how to display the EXTRA-string, as there were two methods used (to configure the displaying of the string) which gave an error in android-studio (this is from the second activity): ,
TextView.setText(message);
code :
TextView textView = new TextView(this);
textView.setTextSize(40);
textView.setText(message);

around this issue displayIntent.putExtra("ID_TAG", ids.get(index)) of Activity1 not using Bundle object,to put Bundle object you need to use putExtras(Bundle bundle) method instead of it.Since you are trying to get the Bundle object in Actvitiy2. Your passing other than Bundle object in Activity1 putExtra method,but you trying to get the Bundle object in Activity2 for that reason your are getting nothing. displayIntent.putExtra("ID_TAG", ids.get(index));replace with displayIntent.putExtras(your bundle object);
Or you can use getIntExtra(String name, int defaultValue) method.

Any of those help I am learning how to develop apps for android. , i think you should call
code :
setContentView(R.layout.fragment_display_message);
TextView textView = (TextView) findViewById(R.id.display_message);
textView.setText(message);

hope this fix your issue I am passing a String array list through an intent and when I get it from the bundle I get a null value. Do you know what the error is? Is it because I am using it inside the newMyFriendRequest method? , You should put this code :
code :
`Intent intent = new Intent(getActivity(), MainLobby.class);

 intent.putExtras(extras);

 startActivity(intent);`

like below fixes the issue I don't think there is a way to differentiate between the datatype of the extras in an Intent. All you have is the hasExtra() method, and with it you can try differentiating between the datatype if you know the name of the extra:
