Python function,issue with input file

This might help you The format of the input file depends on the extension that you use, a .txt file will be a Tab Separated Values (tsv) file while a .csv file will be a Comma Separated Values (csv) file (please note that this is not a general convention, it is something that was decided by that colleague of yours that wrote the function, or maybe it's a local convention).
Each line of the file is usually composed by three {tab,comma} separated values, i.e., frequency, real part and imaginary part of a complex value.
code :
def bbcalfunc(bbfile,nfreqlst):

    #define the delimiter
    if bbfile.find('.txt')>=0:
        delimiter='\t'
    elif bbfile.find('.csv')>=0:
        delimiter=','

    # slurp the file
    with file(bbfile,'r') as fid:
        fidlines=fid.readlines()

    ...

it should still fix some issue f.readline() returns just the next line of the file up to and including the newline character, hence it it correctly stops after processing your first line.
f.readlines() returns a list of strings where each string corresponds to a line from the file. The problem in your case is that you are using a string method on a list object (sentence).

it helps some times You can't generally read from and write to a file at the same time.
So, you have two basic options.
code :
def encrypt_file(path, password):
    temp = io.BytesIO()
    with open(path, 'rb') as in_file:
        encrypt(in_file, temp, password)
    with open(path, 'wb') as out_file:
        out_file.write(temp.getvalue())
def encrypt_file(path, password):
    dir = os.path.dirname(path)
    with open(path, 'rb') as in_file, tempfile.NamedTemporaryFile(dir=dir, delete=False) as out_file:
        encrypt(in_file, temp, password)
    os.replace(temp.name, path)

fixed the issue. Will look into that further It looks like you aren't exiting the interactive prompt to check the file. Close the file to flush it:
code :
f.close()

I hope this helps . I'm seeming to have an issue with running this code that I made: , Best shot, you're using:
Python 2.x:
code :
choice = raw_input("What would you like to do?: ") # to have the input in str
if choice == "1":
    basehenderson()
if choice == "2":
    acidhenderson()
if choice == "3":
    acid_base_ratio()
if choice == "4":
    icesolver()
if choice == "exit" or "quit":
    return

it fixes the issue code to read and write lines is sometimes awkward as you need to take care of invisible characters such as the newline (\n) (and in windows the carriage return(\r))
code :
infile='intest.txt'
## contains:
#cs 121
#cs 122
#cs 166
#cs 260
#cs 999

outfile='tests.txt'

with open(infile, 'r') as inf:
    with open(outfile, 'w') as outf:
        # iterate over infile lines
        for line in inf:
            # strip whitespace and newline from line read in
            sline = line.strip()

            # check if it matches some predetermined line
            if sline in ['cs 121','cs 215','cs 223','cs 260']:
                outf.writelines(sline+' Fall\n')
            elif sline in ['cs 122', 'cs 166', 'cs 224', 'cs 251', 'cs 261']:
                outf.writelines(sline + ' Spring\n')
            else:
                outf.writelines(sline+'\n') # maybe doesn't match, keep line I guess
def append_season(infile,outfile):
    with open(infile, 'r') as inf:
        with open(outfile, 'w') as outf:
            # iterate over infile lines
            for line in inf:
                # strip whitespace and newline from line read in
                sline = line.strip()

                # check if it matches some predetermined line
                if sline in ['cs 121','cs 215','cs 223','cs 260']:
                    outf.writelines(sline+' Fall\n')
                elif sline in ['cs 122', 'cs 166', 'cs 224', 'cs 251', 'cs 261']:
                    outf.writelines(sline + ' Spring\n')
                else:
                    outf.writelines(sline+'\n') # maybe doesn't match, keep line I guess

# call the function:
append_season(infile='intest.txt', outfile='tests.txt')
