will be helpful for those in need You need to add a few elements to the jQuery so that it will find the textbox you are looking for:
code :
$("#<%=textbox1.ClientID %>").attr("placeholder", "enter some text");
<asp:TextBox runat="server" ID="nameTextBox" CssClass="form-control"></asp:TextBox>
id="ctl00_Content_propertiesDXCallbackPanel_nameTextBox"

will be helpful for those in need Not sure why you would do this
After the component declaration add this to modify the constructed input element that is part of the mult-select component.
code :
var input = $("#products").data("kendoMultiSelect").input;
input.prop("placeholder", "need more product");
