With these it helps The error message was caused by the fact that the relationship of self.superview had not been created at the time of adding the constraint.
A further error ensues because the two constraints thc & thc2 can't be added to the NSScrollView, they need to be added to its superview.

seems to work fine You need to set the Frame of the Widget.View before adding it to the scrollview.
Also note that you're allowing the controller to get collected. Controllers own and reference views, but views do not own and reference controllers, so you should keep a reference to your controller list.

like below fixes the issue I have a Cocoa project using Autolayout, and I want to put a button (actually an NSPathControl) over a NSScrollView so that it stays in the same place on the screen even when the scrollView is scrolled. , Solved by setting wantsLayer to YES on the scrollView itself.
If a NSView uses autolayout, do all of its subviews also need to use autolayout for positioning?

This might help you
Is it possible for the subview to not use autolayout, so that it can be positioned by changing the frame directly?

this one helps. I found the solution which seems to me be really easy and working correctly so far. I used NSTableView instead of `NSScrollView' alone and I just flipped the tableView overriding method:
code :
- (BOOL)isFlipped{
  return NO;
}

I wish this helpful for you I have recently experimented with shoehorning two table views into a single scroll view. My set up had a scroll view with a clip view. Within that a custom view. Within that I have the two growing views. Constraints have the the custom view grow with the two child views.
One thing I noticed: If you set up your own scroll view, you need to create constraints to tie your view to the clip view it is in. I had to set up constraints to pin the my custom view to the top, left and right of the clip view. If I add a fourth constraint to pin the bottom to the clip view, the scroll view actually grows with my own content view.
