To fix the issue you can do You're using a character class, it's wrong, use a non capture group instead:
code :
^(?:R\d+\s(?:AND|OR)\s+)*R\d+$

it fixes the issue I am trying to match (once or twice) any instance of fixed|local|scroll But I do not want to capture the trailing space. I thought I fixed this by putting in (?: ... \s*) but it is still capturing that trailing space. , You can do this:
code :
\s*((?:\s*?\b(?:fixed|local|scroll)\b){1,2})
\s*((?:\s*?(?:fixed|local|scroll)){1,2})

I wish this help you I'm trying to write a regexp that will find the letters "AD" followed by 4 number digits. In front of AD there should be a blank space. , You can use this regex:
code :

wish helps you getline in string might be your friend in this case. here is your code but fixed up to use that.
code :
#include <string>

int rotMain()
{
  //char word[128];
  string word;
  int x = 0;
  int v;
  int shift;
  int sv;

  cin >> shift;
  getline(cin, word);

  while (word[x] != '\0')    // While the string isn't at the end...
  {
    v = int(word[x]);
    sv = v + shift;
    x++;
    cout << static_cast<char>(sv);
  }
  return 0;
}

fixed the issue. Will look into that further At the end of the pattern, lookahead for zero or more spaces, followed by the end of the string:
code :
^(\S+\s+)(\S+)(?=\s*$)
