Less multiple parent usage

To fix the issue you can do You don't have to use a parent reference for .dropdown-menu{ & > li and you could also wonder why you nest the .dropdown > li > a selector.
But beside the above you could solve your question by using the extend feature:
code :
@white: white;
@baseColor: blue;

.menuFocusHover(@fontColor, @bgColor) {
    text-decoration: none;
    color: @fontColor;
    background-color: @bgColor;
    background-image: linear-gradient(to bottom, @bgColor, @bgColor);
    background-repeat: repeat-x;
    filter: progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.gradient(startColorstr='#3DA857', endColorstr='#3DA857', GradientType=0);
}

.dropdown-menu{
    > li {
        > a {
            &:hover, &:focus {
                .menuFocusHover(@white,@baseColor);
            }
        }
    }
}

.dropdown-submenu {
    &:hover, &:focus {
        > a {
         &:extend(.dropdown-menu > li > a:hover);
        }
    }
}
.dropdown-menu > li > a:hover,
.dropdown-menu > li > a:focus,
.dropdown-submenu:hover > a,
.dropdown-submenu:focus > a {
  text-decoration: none;
  color: white;
  background-color: blue;
  background-image: linear-gradient(to bottom, blue, blue);
  background-repeat: repeat-x;
  filter: progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.gradient(startColorstr='#3DA857', endColorstr='#3DA857', GradientType=0);
}

seems to work fine If you are positive that the parent of secondClass is always going to be firstClass then you can do this:
code :
static_cast<firstClass *>(parent)->doSomething();
firstClass *myParent = qobject_cast<firstClass *>(parent);
if(myParent){
    myParent->doSomething();
}

To fix the issue you can do It looks as though your HTML class friends_rec should be recommend, judging from your jQuery code.
Also, since we don't know what $(el) is, that should probably be $(this), instead.

should help you out This seems to be bordering on "primarily based on opinion." Here's a third option which I have used numerous times. It's more verbose, but it I think it makes the structure clearer. It's also easy to see the repeating nature of the nesting, so it's easy to generalize to more groupings.
code :
var query = source.GroupBy(
    x => x.A,
    (a, aGroup) => new
    {
        A = a,
        Items = aGroup.GroupBy(
            x => x.B,
            (b, bGroup) => new
            {
                B = b,
                Items = bGroup
            })
    });

To fix this issue That is a classic problem on multiple-inheritance that ultimately led some languages to opt-out from multiple-inheritance at all.
Python however, got away just by putting in place a cleverly crafted "method resolution order" (mro) algorithm, and later, with the advent of the super built-in call. The algorithm and its history are detailed in https://www.python.org/download/releases/2.3/mro/
code :
class A: pass
class B(A):
    def f(self): raise NotImplementedError
class C(B):
    def f(self):
        super().f()
        print("C")
class B1(B): f = lambda s: print("B1")
class B2(B): f = lambda s: print("B2")
class D(C, B1): pass
class D1(C, B2): pass
In [25]: D().f()
B1
C

In [26]: D1().f()
B2
C

In [27]: D.__mro__
Out[27]: (__main__.D, __main__.C, __main__.B1, __main__.B, __main__.A, object)
