To fix the issue you can do You can use the status of g:each to conditionally start a new row after 4 td:
code :
  <tr>
  <g:each var="it" status="i" in="${ar}">
      <g:if test="${ i > 0 && i % 4 == 0 }"></tr><tr></g:if>
      <td>${it}</td>
  </g:each>
  </tr>

will be helpful for those in need So, the answer is pretty simple... And lives at http://groovy.codehaus.org/Groovy-Eclipse+compiler+plugin+for+Maven
In short:
code :
    <plugin>
        <groupId>org.apache.maven.plugins</groupId>
        <artifactId>maven-compiler-plugin</artifactId>
        <version>3.1</version>
        <configuration>
            <compilerId>groovy-eclipse-compiler</compilerId>
        </configuration>
        <dependencies>
            <dependency>
                <groupId>org.codehaus.groovy</groupId>
                <artifactId>groovy-eclipse-compiler</artifactId>
                <version>2.8.0-01</version>
            </dependency>
            <dependency>
                <groupId>org.codehaus.groovy</groupId>
                <artifactId>groovy-eclipse-batch</artifactId>
                <version>2.1.8-01</version>
            </dependency>
        </dependencies>
    </plugin>

will be helpful for those in need The only thing that worked was deleting all of my Intellij/Jetbrains global config files. I went into ~/Library/Preferences and deleted anything that had Jetbrains or Intellij in its filename. I have been reusing the config files for the past two years across several versions. It caught up with me. Groovy files will compile now.

this will help How your .iml file looks like? I repeated all steps from your message and have successfully run GroovyDemo.groovy class without any errors.
My .iml file is:
code :
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<module type="JAVA_MODULE" version="4">
  <component name="NewModuleRootManager" inherit-compiler-output="true">
    <exclude-output />
    <content url="file://$MODULE_DIR$">
      <sourceFolder url="file://$MODULE_DIR$/src" isTestSource="false" />
    </content>
    <orderEntry type="inheritedJdk" />
    <orderEntry type="sourceFolder" forTests="false" />
    <orderEntry type="library" name="groovy-2.4.15" level="application" />
  </component>
</module>

it helps some times Yes i solved it by waiting for 30 minutes so it can download the groovy jar file, before trying it for 2 hours and it was no problem with my internet.
thanks @TheWanderer to hint me about the internet .

around this issue So I eventually got it working properly by deleting the entire codehaus dir in the .m2 repo. Re-downloading everything seemed to sort it out and now it all works correctly without any hacks.
This github issue is somewhat related - https://github.com/groovy/GMavenPlus/issues/84 - and the final comment led me to zapping the repo.
