Any of those help Well, if you use requestWindowFeature(Window.FEATURE_NO_TITLE); the ActionBar object you read three lines later is null. Thus the NPE.
But why do you hide the ActionBar in this way and then get the object and set tabs and whatnot to an invisible ActionBar?

it fixes the issue If you look here, you can see that Theme.Holo.Light.NoActionBar was really added in API 13. So I guess you can't do it this way. Try using Theme.Holo.Light and doing this to remove the action bar:
code :
<style name="MyAppTheme" parent="@android:style/Theme.Holo.Light">
    <item name="android:windowActionBar">false</item>

With these it helps I want to hide ActionBar when scrolling on my RecyclerView. To do that I'm using the quick return pattern. , Just use this listener in your ListView:
code :
AbsListView.OnScrollListener onScrollListener = new AbsListView.OnScrollListener() {

        int mLastFirstVisibleItem = 0;

        public void onScrollStateChanged(AbsListView view, int scrollState) {

        public void onScroll(AbsListView absListView, int firstVisibleItem, int visibleItemCount,
                             int totalItemCount) {

            final int lastItem = firstVisibleItem + visibleItemCount;

            if (absListView.getId() == wallListView.getId()) {

                final int currentFirstVisibleItem = wallListView.getFirstVisiblePosition();
                if (currentFirstVisibleItem > mLastFirstVisibleItem) {
                } else if (currentFirstVisibleItem < mLastFirstVisibleItem) {

                mLastFirstVisibleItem = currentFirstVisibleItem;

requestWindowFeature(Window.FEATURE_ACTION_BAR_OVERLAY); //ADD THIS BEFORE setContentView(...);
        View padding = new View(getApplicationContext());
