help you fix your problem This is a feature of array literals introduced back in ES3.
You can put leading or trilling commas as "empty" elements
code :

array.length returns undefined if the last element is undefined in javascript

array.length returns undefined if the last element is undefined in javascript

Does that help Because the last element in the array is undefined.
The array has 3 elements 1, 2 and undefined where undefined has the index 2 and the array has a length of 3.
Using dynamic regular expression for a string.split() returns an array with undefined elements. What am I doing wrong?

should help you out string.split(regexp) returns entries for all the capture groups in the regexp. If you need groups in the regexp, but don't want them to be included in the results, use non-capturing groups. These are denoted by putting ?: after the opening parenthesis of the group:
code :
var searchArray = [
    "(?:" + tq + d + tq + ")", // First case to search for, eg: ","
    "(?:" + tq + d + ")", // Second case to search for, eg: ",
    "(?:" + d + tq + ")", // Third case to search for, eg: ,"
    "(?:" + d + ")", // Last case to search for, eg: ,
    "(?:" + tq + "$)", // if the text qualifier is the very last thing
  ];
var regexString = "(?:" + searchArray.join('|') + ')';

seems to work fine Solved my own question:
I didn't realize d3.json was asynchronous. My code was outside of the d3.json function so obviously my data wasn't actually loaded.

seems to work fine JavaScript is not supported associative array so use object and get size by property name array size with the help of Object.keys() method.
code :
// initialize as object
var f = {};

// define properties
f["1_f_1"] = "1";
f["2_f_2"] = "2";
f["3_f_3"] = "3";

// get object property name array and get length
alert(Object.keys(f).length);
Javascript : array.length returns undefined

Javascript : array.length returns undefined

Any of those help Objects don't have a .length property.
A simple solution if you know you don't have to worry about hasOwnProperty checks, would be to do this:
