should help you out You are using AppCompat library, so I imagine you would have to call getSupportActionBar() instead of getActionBar()
EDIT: As I said before, if you updated your min SDK to 11, then you DO NOT NEED to use the getSupportActionBar. If there are still errors in the getActionBar methods, then make sure you did not use the theme android:theme="@style/Theme.NoTitle" on your Application manifest. You need to have a actionbar with title defined in your theme like android:theme="@android:style/Theme.WithActionBar". Or use getWindow().requestFeature(Window.FEATURE_ACTION_BAR); after setContentView. There are many solutions: getActionBar returns null

I wish this helpful for you @MicheleMariotti you made me thougth, and I started to check the version of all components, and I found that somewhere an Icefaces 3.1 remained, that caused this problem. I removed the 3.1 jars and updated everything to 3.3, and the error message disappeared! Problem solved! :)

seems to work fine After messing with android-support-v4 I removed appcompat as an imported project (it didn't exist with cocos2dx v3.2) and reset all android-support-v4 to their earlier versions, ditto for v4.
This still didn't work but nor did it break things- it still worked on the emulator (both API21 and API16) but not on the phone (API16). It was likely a smaller apk too.

To fix this issue Yes - the android libc headers have changed in API 21. Some functions that didn't exist previously were redirected to other functions in the older headers. Therefore you can't really build with API 21 if you want to run on older devices, unless you take great care to work around such issues. If you need to use newer native APIs from API 21 but still be compatible with older devices, you need to do manual work to achieve this anyway.
If you only want the newer API for the java side, just set a separate APP_PLATFORM=19 in Application.mk, while building the java side with a newer SDK.
