it helps some times Form my own personal experience in JSP. I know out.print() is better than concatenating strings .
You might have worked with BufferedOutputStream in file IO . Where you write your data to the file (which actually gets written in a BUFFER) and whenever you think the data should be made permanent, you call flush() . And your data gets written to the file. Several times I have been left bewildered, why my file is empty. Then at the end I found that , I did not call flush() .

it fixes the issue I'm new to C. I'm having some trouble understanding some fundamental materials in reading input and pointers. I want to use a nextChar() function to read and print each character of a string that I enter in the command line. I try typing "hello"..It displays "hello" 6 times. Can someone tell me why this happens? How can I fix it? Thank you for your time! , the nextchar function could be reduced:
code :
char nextChar(char* ptr)
{
    static int i = 0;
    i++;
    return (*(ptr+i));
}
void display(char* ptr)
{
    assert(ptr != 0);
    char c = *ptr;

    do
    {
        printf("%c", c);

    } while (c = nextChar(ptr));
}

I wish this helpful for you You are not writing to the printWriter, but to Console only. Write to printWriter object also in inner for loop to store the content in file. Like.
code :
for(int j = 1; j <= 10; j++ )
            {
                if (i % 10 == i) {
         System.out.printf("%-2d * %-2d = %-2d", j, i + i + 1, i   * j + 1);
         System.out.printf("%10d * %d = %d\n", j, i + i + 2, i * j + 1);

         printWriter.printf("%-2d * %-2d = %-2d", j, i + i + 1, i
                            * j + 1);
         printWriter.printf("%10d * %d = %d\n", j, i + i + 2, i
                            * j + 1);
                }
private static void printTimeTable() throws FileNotFoundException {
    try {
        File file = new File("Lab Print Time Table");

        PrintWriter printWriter = new PrintWriter("TimeTables.txt");

        printWriter.println("\tTimes Tables:\n");
        for (int i = 1; i <= 10; i += 2) {
            for (int j = 1; j <= 10; j++) {

                System.out.printf("%-2d * %-2d = %-2d", j, i, i * j);
                System.out
                        .printf("%10d * %d = %d\n", j, i + 1, j * (i + 1));

                printWriter.printf("%-2d * %-2d = %-2d", j, i, i * j);
                printWriter.printf("%10d * %d = %d\n", j, i + 1, j
                        * (i + 1));

            }
            System.out.println("");

            printWriter.println("");
        }
        printWriter.close();
    } catch (FileNotFoundException e) {
        e.printStackTrace();
    }}

hope this fix your issue , Maybe something like this?
code :
 String input = TB.Text;
       if (input.ToLowerInvariant().StartsWith("print: "))
        {
            String print = input.Substring(input.IndexOf(' ') + 1);

            MessageBox.Show(print.Split(';')[0], "Console");
        }

this one helps. getLine has getLine :: IO String type
That's why in this line x <- getLine, x gets String value, but (+) :: Num a => a -> a -> a is only defined for Num instances.
