this one helps. Here is what I learned (so far) from my discussion with a DTS team member.
code :
/Library
~/Library
/private/var
/var
NSString *envVarTestingDir = [[NSProcessInfo processInfo].environment objectForKey:@"UNIT_TESTING_DIR"];
NSString *sourceRelativeDir = [[fm currentDirectoryPath] stringByAppendingPathComponent:@"~testing dir"];
NSString *testingDirPath = [envVarTestingDir length] > 0 ? envVarTestingDir : sourceRelativeDir;

hope this fix your issue NSParameterAssert throws an NSInternalInconsistencyException (source) when its assertion fails. You can test that this happens with the STAssertThrowsSpecificNamed macro. For example:
code :
void (^expressionBlock)() = ^{
    [[Apiclient sharedClient] findAndCreateUserWithID:nil success:^(Player *player) {
        } failure:^(NSError *error) {
        }];
};

STAssertThrowsSpecificNamed(expressionBlock(), NSException, NSInternalInconsistencyException, nil);

With these it helps Your code can't fail as it contains no unit tests. Thus, there are zero failures, which Xcode considers as success. You should wrap the code you want to test within an it block:
code :
describe(@"collectionViewLayout", ^{
    it(@"has a valid flow layout", ^{
        UICollectionViewFlowLayout *flowLayout = (UICollectionViewFlowLayout *)viewController.collectionView.collectionViewLayout;
        [[flowLayout shouldNot]beNil];
        [[theValue(flowLayout.sectionInset) should]equal: theValue(UIEdgeInsetsZero)];
        fail(@"failed");
    });
});

will help you Okay - so it turns out I was barking up the wrong tree completely - it turns out that the issue was that my bot was set to test all simulators - yet I didnt have all simulators installed nor did I need to test on them - so I amended the bot to just run on the OS's I needed and it completed successfully - doh!

this one helps. For future readers : The solution in the end was both of the following :
Install xserver
code :
sudo apt-get install xorg openbox
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop
com.teamdev.jxmaps.internal.internal.ipc.v: Failed to get Browser browserChannel 0
sudo startx -- :1

it should still fix some issue You can set "Continue in error" = true:
code :
- task: VSTest@2
  inputs:
    platform: '$(buildPlatform)'
    configuration: '$(buildConfiguration)'
  continueOnError: true
