I wish this helpful for you Q: Are you worried that you might create an interface or method with a duplicate name?
If so, the answer is to use "packages"
code :
package com.mypackage;

interface myInterface {
  public void myMethod ();

To fix the issue you can do In Java 8 you can have default implementations in interface but I believe that will not solve your problem. Instead of changing the method signatures you can create a separate static method and call it with the class name within getUsers implementation. e.g.
Create new method:
code :
public static Collection<IUserEntity> getUsersStatic() {
   return staticUserEntityMap.values();
public Collection<IUserEntity>      getUsers() {
  return UserEntity.getUsersStatic();

wish helps you I did what should have been the obvious thing: I asked my professor for clarification. It seems I read too much into her words; when she said we should go review interfaces, she just meant literally that. She never actually said we were wrong; it seems that, strictly speaking, there are no interfaces for methods. But I learned a lot from all these answers — thanks.

wish help you to fix your issue A static method is meant to be called without an instance of the class/interface concerned. Usually they are meant to be utility methods.
A default method is meant to be called on an instance of the interface concerned. All implementations of this interface will have this method definition, unless it is overridden.
