HTML formatting: can't do properly separated text

HTML formatting: can't do properly separated text

may help you . I think that the problem which you mention is solvable by using clearfix on div which encloses this span. This will prevent any other floating element placed after clearfixed one to collide with it.
Clearfix simply pushes invisible table element right after container.
code :
.container:after {
  content:"";
  display:table;
  clear:both;
}

Hope this helps I stopped this from happening by ending the second each loop.
Here is the fixed code
code :
<% @demand.items.each do |item| %>
  <tr>
  <td><%= item.name %></td>
  <td><%= item.price %></td>
     <% item.demand_items.each do |quantity| %>
        <td><%= quantity.quantity %></td>
        <td class="sub-total" style="padding-left: 30px;">
        <%= subtotal(item.price, quantity.quantity) %></td>
      <% break %>
    <% end %>
<% end %>

I think the issue was by ths following , The problem with your format string is that the last scanset you're using is %[^\t] while most likely ends with a \n, although of course it could possibly be that it ends with a \t. If it is certain that it ends with a \n, then simply changing that last one should suffice:
code :
"%d\t%[^\t]\t%[^\t]\t%[^\t]\t%[^\t]\t%[^\n]\n"
                         // changed this ^ from t to n
"%d\t%[^\t]\t%[^\t]\t%[^\t]\t%[^\t]\t%[^\n\t]%*[\n\t]"
// %[^\n\t] discards and assigns whatever found until a '\t' or '\n' is encountered
// %*[\n\t] discards and only discards '\n's and '\t's
// ... until something else is encountered

I wish did fix the issue. Tables are definitely a viable way to go—but let's consider flexbox. With a little tweaking in the HTML, we can create rows and columns and add responsiveness. Adding responsiveness with tables is possible, but not a pleasant developer experience.
In the following example, I set up the flex row columns to assume 25% of available row space. When the screen is smaller than 750px, there's no room for 4 columns of data and I change the column width to 50%.
code :
#chuckPage {
  margin: auto;
  height: 50%;
  overflow: auto;
  background-color: white;
  padding: 25px;
  border: 5px solid #ac5353;
  text-align: center;
}

body {
  background-color: #59a659;
}

form[action="Die"] {
  display: flex;
  flex-wrap: wrap;
  flex-direction: column;
}

form[action="Die"] .row {
  display: flex;
  flex-wrap: wrap;
  align-items: center;
  border-bottom: 2px solid gray;
}

form[action="Die"] .col {
  flex-basis: 25%;
  text-align: left;
}

@media screen and (max-width: 750px) {
  form[action="Die"] .col {
    flex-basis: 50%;
  }
}
<div id="chuckPage">
  <h1>Choose your bets!</h1>
  <h2>Current Purse: $1,000.00</h2>
  <form action="Die" method="post">
