wish helps you The issue was with Data Protection enabled in app capabilities. So as device was locked, files got encrypted and could not be played in background. Hence the crash. Changing encryption properties for audio files fixes this issue.

wish help you to fix your issue I eventually found the solution to this problem. Every time I needed audio I created a new thread to fetch the audio. On occassion while a thread was fetching audio for a particular the buffer the same buffer would request data again resulting in the same buffer be accessed at the same time, thus the exc_bad_access.
I solved this by having just one thread waiting and being signalled to get data using posix condition.

it helps some times Reading audio files on iOS with ExtAudioFileRead, it seems that reaching eof completely freezes the reader… Example, assumes _abl AudioBufferList and _eaf ExtendedAudioFileRef are allocated and correctly configured: , Woozah!
Gotcha, evil AudioBufferList tinkerer.
code :
-( void )resetABLBuffersSize: ( AudioBufferList * )alb size: ( UInt32 )size
     AudioBuffer * buffer;
     UInt32 i;

     for( i = 0; i < abl->mNumberBuffers; i++ )
         buffer = &( abl->mBuffers[ i ] );
         buffer->mDataByteSize = size;

it fixes the issue Got it. By replacing littleBuffer[i]=0.5*(UInt8)frameData; with the code below, the audio scales as expected.
code :
float frameData=signalData[i];
if (frameData>127){

like below fixes the issue You shouldn't be reading from the audio file in your audio callback - you should be buffering in another thread and passing the samples across.
You're breaking cardinal audio rule #4:
