This might help you I have to export a graphml file out of R igraph to add column values by hand. When I want to import the graphml file again it has to be proper UTF-8 and valid xml. So I convert the the data before saving into UTF-8 using iconv() as you can see in the for loop of my code below , This line is definitely incorrect:
code :
edges[,i] <- gsub("[[:ctrl:]]", "", edges[,i])

Hope this helps So, you problem is that JAXB treats XML files without header as UTF-8, when your file uses some other encoding (probably ISO-8859-1 or Windows-1252, if 0xBF character actually intended to mean ¿).
If you can change the producer of the file, you may add header with actual encoding specification, or just use UTF-8 to write a file.
code :
results = (Results) unmarshaller.unmarshal(
   new InputStreamReader(new FileInputStream(inputFile), "ISO-8859-1"));

I wish this help you Finally, after a week wasted searching an answer, i've got a solution. The famous error "Invalid byte 2 of 3-byte UTF-8 sequence." means that an xml has enconding="UTF-8" in the prolog

help you fix your problem If your XML file is not UTF-8 encoded, then you need an XML declaration as first line giving the actual encoding. For example
code :
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>
error UnicodeDecodeError: 'utf-8' codec can't decode byte 0xff in position 0: invalid start byte

wish helps you Python tries to convert a byte-array (a bytes which it assumes to be a utf-8-encoded string) to a unicode string (str). This process of course is a decoding according to utf-8 rules. When it tries this, it encounters a byte sequence which is not allowed in utf-8-encoded strings (namely this 0xff at position 0).
Since you did not provide any code we could look at, we only could guess on the rest.
code :
with open(path, 'rb') as f:
  contents = f.read()
Error: 'utf8' codec can't decode byte 0x80 in position 0: invalid start byte

Error: 'utf8' codec can't decode byte 0x80 in position 0: invalid start byte

Hope this helps You are not loading the file correctly. You should use load() instead of load_word2vec_format(). The latter is used when you train a model using the C code, and save the model in a binary format. However you are not saving the model in a binary format, and are training it using python. So you can simply use the following code and it should work:
