like below fixes the issue A very simple solution would be to sort by the position of the searched string:
code :
SELECT *
FROM `table`
WHERE MATCH(`name`) AGAINST ('%motor' IN BOOLEAN MODE)
ORDER BY INSTR(UPPER(`name`), UPPER('motor'))
LIMIT 10
motor
motor corp
tata motor
hundai Motor
ferrari motor
motor corp
motor
tata motor
hundai Motor
ferrari motor
ORDER BY INSTR(UPPER(`name`), UPPER('motor')), LENGTH(`name`)

Hope that helps I've been trying to figure this out myself but I'm afraid Regular Expressions just aren't my thing. In this sample string: "My name is %name and I live in $address." I'm trying to get the words which begin with "%" then replace them with their values in $name or $address depending on what word was found in the regex. The new string is then returned complete with the replaced values. , This one should do fine:
code :
(?<!\\|\w)%\w+

Yes, there's a difference. When the WHERE condition calls a function on the column value, indexes can't be used. I don't think it will realize that your SUBSTRING() call happens to match the indexed part of the text and use that. On the other hand, LIKE is specifically coded to recognize the cases where it can use an index. Also, if you want to compare two strings for equality, you should use =, not STRCMP(), e.g.
code :
WHERE SUBSTRING(`description`,1,20) = 'string_to_compare'

around this issue I am trying to do a search in a file which may include a # and have tried the following two RegEx statements, and neither work. Can someone show me the correct RegEx that I can search for regular alphanumeric characters and also if the user includes a # or another special character? , You can use one of the two solutions:
code :
 var pattern = @"(?<!\w)(?:" + Regex.Escape(searchPhrases[0]) + @")(?!\w)";
var pattern = @"(?<!\S)(?:" + Regex.Escape(searchPhrases[0]) + @")(?!\S)";
