I wish did fix the issue. On select change you can update your existing mesh texture, don't need to remove or create new mesh :
code :
mesh.material.map = THREE.ImageUtils.loadTexture( src );
mesh.material.needsUpdate = true;

may help you . When you update a texture, whether its based on canvas, video or loaded externally, you need to set the following property on the texture to true:
If an object is created like this:
code :
var canvas = document.createElement("canvas");
var canvasMap = new THREE.Texture(canvas)
var mat = new THREE.MeshPhongMaterial();
mat.map = canvasMap;
var mesh = new THREE.Mesh(geom,mat);

I think the issue was by ths following , Texture loading is asynchronous. You need to put the bulk of your code in the loader callback.
code :
texture = THREE.ImageUtils.loadTexture( 'filename.jpg', undefined, function() {

    // the rest of your code here...

    var tex = texture.clone();
    tex.needsUpdate = true;

}

wish helps you This is because you're updating the img.src property and reading the height without giving it any time to load. Keep in mind that HTML is asynchronous, and things aren't immediately available when you want to get them from the net.
What you need to do is set up an onload event listener, which will give you access to the image's properties after the image has loaded.
code :
    var img = new Image();
    img.onload = function() {
      alert(this.width + 'x' + this.height);
    }

    img.src = 'http://www.google.com/intl/en_ALL/images/logo.gif';
