AngularJS - Does $resource requests send cookies automatically?

Hope that helps Browser will always send a cookie along with the request (no matter if it's an XHR request or not) as long as all assumptions are met (same domain, matching path, matching port, same protocol, not expired, etc.).
Since $resource service is just a simple Ajax wrapper your cookies will/should be sent (if everything's in place).

AngularJS: How to send auth token with $resource requests?

this will help to Andy Joslin. I picked his idea of wrapping the resource actions. The service for the resource looks like this now:
code :
.factory('Todo', ['$resource', 'TokenHandler', function($resource, tokenHandler) {
  var resource = $resource('http://localhost:port/todos/:id', {
    }, {
      update: {method: 'PUT'}

  resource = tokenHandler.wrapActions( resource, ["query", "update"] );

  return resource;
.factory('TokenHandler', function() {
  var tokenHandler = {};
  var token = "none";

  tokenHandler.set = function( newToken ) {
    token = newToken;

  tokenHandler.get = function() {
    return token;

  // wrap given actions of a resource to send auth token with every
  // request
  tokenHandler.wrapActions = function( resource, actions ) {
    // copy original resource
    var wrappedResource = resource;
    for (var i=0; i < actions.length; i++) {
      tokenWrapper( wrappedResource, actions[i] );
    // return modified copy of resource
    return wrappedResource;

  // wraps resource action to send request with auth token
  var tokenWrapper = function( resource, action ) {
    // copy original action
    resource['_' + action]  = resource[action];
    // create new action wrapping the original and sending token
    resource[action] = function( data, success, error){
      return resource['_' + action](
        angular.extend({}, data || {}, {access_token: tokenHandler.get()}),

  return tokenHandler;

will be helpful for those in need Since the $resource service is a factory of $http have you try to set the withCredentials default value to true of your $httpProvider in your app config ?
code :
.config(function ($httpProvider) {
  $httpProvider.defaults.withCredentials = true;

Make Axios send cookies in its requests automatically

I think the issue was by ths following , I had the same problem and fixed it by using the withCredentials property.
XMLHttpRequest from a different domain cannot set cookie values for their own domain unless withCredentials is set to true before making the request.
code :
axios.get('some api url', {withCredentials: true});
