it should still fix some issue Firstly, I should like to say that I think that doing this could be a terrible idea... it could be construed as fraud.
Having said that, please refer to the How to update assembly version of a dll without compiling in c#? post on MSDN. According to Konrad, you can 'simply edit the File directly to change the version information' (although he advises against this).

I hope this helps . I guess it depends on what your app is doing with them.
If you're pushing .resx files into the App_LocalResources folder of your website, they will be Just-In-Time compiled automatically as soon as you do that. So in this case you wouldn't have to recompile anything.
Can I update a single source file on Heroku without recompiling the slug?

should help you out There's a good reason as to why it's not possible. When you push to Heroku, they produce a 'slug' of your application (https://devcenter.heroku.com/articles/slug-compiler). To provide the massive scalability that Heroku provides this slug is read only so that it can be spun up on multiple dynos which are likely to be distributed across many different physical machines. Each of these dynos runs a separate instance of your application whilst the routing mesh ensures that requests to your application goes to the correct dynos.
Now consider what would occur if any of these instances were writeable, if you're running 5 dynos you'd have your application running on 5 seperate instances - if a file is written how is it then distributed across of your running dynos? Yes, Heroku could have considered some kind of shared file system for running applications out of but that's complicated. By making the file system read only (https://devcenter.heroku.com/articles/read-only-filesystem) this problem is alleviated.

I wish this help you For your first question: yes, it's possible:
Add .git(.svn, .hg etc) directory to VCS rules Read version number in your build script in teamcity(command line runner) in your favorite scripting language and incerement it. Set build number via interaction protocol Update build number in version file in your favorite scripting language Perform your build steps Perform commit and push, you can because you already have .git(.svn, .hg etc) directory in build dir in last step

seems to work fine You can simply add PowerShell build step containing the following code:
code :
(Get-Content "showVersion.js")
| Foreach { $_ -Replace "__build_ver_placeholder__", "%build.number%" }
| Set-Content "showVersion.js";
