String to date in MS Access SQL statement gives type mismatch error

String to date in MS Access SQL statement gives type mismatch error

hop of those help? You said your dates are strings in YY.MM.DD format. If that is correct for all the stored [Date] values ... which means Len([Date]) = 8 for all rows ... those values will sort in the same order whether you sort them as text or transform them to Date/Time values.
So I'll suggest this query ...
code :

Hope that helps What data type and format is TEST_DATE? I get an error if I make it a Date/Time datatype and make the data evaluate to false, but it works if it evaluates to true. That may be why you see it working in a Select. When i make TEST_DATE a double, and use your format in the nz function (19981231) it works in all cases.

seems to work fine To return a value from a data macro as string, you have to format the internal date/time format as a string. In Access an internal date/time value is a double number with the integer part as number of days since 1900, and the “decimal” time part is a fraction of 24 hours. Unfortunately if you simply wrap the date/time in the str$() function we had for 20+ years, then you get something JUST like if you type this into the debug window:
code :
? cdbl(now())
 41955.5478587963
Month([d]) & "/" & Day([d]) & " Time = " & Hour([d]) & ":" & Minute([d])

Hope that helps I'm getting the error message "Data type mismatch in criteria expression" with the following UPDATE statement executing in MS Access 2013. , If [PersonResponsible] allows nulls, change your SQL to:
code :
UPDATE tblTasks
   SET tblTasks.IconFilePath = "C:\Images\john.smith.jpg"
 WHERE (((Replace(Nz([PersonResponsible],"")," ",""))="Smith,John")
   AND ((Len(Nz([PersonResponsible],"")))>0));
UPDATE tblTasks
   SET tblTasks.IconFilePath = "C:\Images\john.smith.jpg"
 WHERE (((Replace(Nz([PersonResponsible],"")," ",""))="Smith,John"));

hope this fix your issue You are using the same command for three different executions. The problem is that you don't clear the parameters collection, so you end trying to insert the first set of parameters with the third execution
code :
....
// First execution with the set of parameters defined before
cm.ExecuteNonQuery();

// Second execution, no parameters required here
cm.CommandText = "SELECT @@IDENTITY AS AUDFIL_ID;";
newID = int.Parse(cm.ExecuteScalar().ToString());

// Before starting to add the parameters for the final INSERT
// clear the collection from the previous ones
cm.Parameters.Clear();
....
strSQL = @"INSERT INTO AUDIOFILES_MSTR
             (AUDFIL_TT,AUDFIL_RELEASE_DTM,AUDFIL_LENGTH,
              AUDFIL_GENRE_ID,AUDFIL_TYPE_ID,AUDFIL_ADD_DTM,
              AUDFIL_STAT_CD)
           VALUES
             (@AUDFIL_TT,@AUDFIL_RELEASE_DTM,@AUDFIL_LENGTH,
              @AUDFIL_GENRE_ID, @AUDFIL_TYPE_ID, @AUDFIL_ADD_DTM,
              @AUDFIL_STAT_CD)";

help you fix your problem You are mixing up totally different ways to update data - UPDATE SQL and VBA recordset.
If you want to update a recordset row by row, you do something like
