This might help you iPhone format strings are in Unicode format. Behind the link is a table explaining what all the letters above mean so you can build your own.
And of course don't forget to release your date formatters when you're done with them. The above code leaks format, now, and inFormat.

Hope that helps I'm trying to display the Islamic current day name , month name. I used NSLocale to set the region to ar_SA, however it's just translating the day and month names from English to Arabic. , I think this would help
code :
NSCalendar * hijri = [[NSCalendar alloc] initWithCalendarIdentifier:NSIslamicCalendar];

NSDateFormatter * formatter = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init];
[formatter setDateStyle:NSDateFormatterLongStyle];
[formatter setTimeStyle:NSDateFormatterNoStyle];
[formatter setCalendar:hijri];

NSLog(@"hijri: %@", [formatter stringFromDate:[NSDate date]]);
[formatter release];

To fix the issue you can do You are looking for a semantic rationale or mnemonic when there is none. Lower case b was probably chosen for symmetry with A, a for weekday and abbreviated weekday. B and b provide the same for month names.

fixed the issue. Will look into that further You can use your own AbbreviatedMonthNames Collection so there would always be the same, like this:
