like below fixes the issue Rather than select * ... use select author_name ... in the two subqueries being unioned. The problem stems from both Author and CoAuthored having ID columns. SELECT * brings through both of these columns and MySQL doesn't like the idea of UNIONing these to produce a resultset with two same-named columns.

I think the issue was by ths following , I have two 2-D arrays close and open , Macros just replace text so you need to parenthesize everything.
code :
#define min(a,b) (((a)<(b))?(a):(b))
#define max(a,b) (((a)>(b))?(a):(b))

This might help you I am combining two tables that have the same columns. They are from two different sources, like treatment and control groups. I want to know where each row came from. , Add another column to identify the source?
code :
CREATE TABLE x AS
SELECT 'y' src, * FROM y
UNION ALL
SELECT 'z' src, * FROM z;

around this issue Based on Alex's comment and link to a similar problem here is the solution:
code :
WITH source (SomeColumn) AS
(
          SELECT 'some value 1'
    UNION SELECT 'some value 2'
)
SELECT ROW_NUMBER() OVER (ORDER BY (SELECT NULL)), SomeColumn FROM source;

I wish this help you type X = C | D = (A & B) | B and since A & B is a more strict version of B, so the least requirement of type X is B, your assigning data satisfy all the required field of B and even have additional field of y compared to B, so it's assignable to X
