hop of those help? First, set an OnClickListener for the Button. In that listener, grab the text from the EditText via textBox.getText().toString(). Next you want to update the the ListView's list adapter with the newly selected text. There are a number of ways to do this
Update the adapter and notify the ListView of the change Rebuilt the array of Strings and set the adapter for the ListView again

it helps some times Use Spinner instead of using listview if you want single selection. Below code for listview item selected.
code :
list.setOnItemClickListener(new OnItemClickListener()
{
@Override
public void onItemClick(AdapterView<?> adapter, View v, int position, long arg3)
{
        String value = (String)adapter.getItemAtPosition(position);
        // assuming string and if you want to get the value on click of list item
        // do what you intend to do on click of listview row
   }
  }
 );

should help you out appreciate if you can help me here. I am creating a To Do List, where the ListView is in the MainToDoList Activity with a "Add a new Task" button that takes the user to the second activity. , Use startActivityForResult in your Todolistactivity class
code :
  private void addTask() {
            btn.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() {
                @Override
                public void onClick(View view) {

                   startActivityForResult(new Intent(Todolistactivity.this, EditToDo.class), 100); // 100 is request code.
                }
            });
        }
//...

@Override
protected void onActivityResult(int requestCode, int resultCode, Intent data) {

    if (requestCode == 100) {
        if(resultCode == Activity.RESULT_OK){
            String result = data.getStringExtra("task");
        }
        else if (resultCode == Activity.RESULT_CANCELED) {
            //...
        }
    }
}
  private void saveButton(){

        save.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() {

            @Override
            public void onClick(View view) {
               String titleEntered = title.getText().toString();
               Intent intent = new Intent();
               intent.putExtra("task", titleEntered);
               setResult(Activity.RESULT_OK, intent);
               finish();
            }
        });
    }

this one helps. One thing I can see which is wrong in your code is that you don't do anything to newly created views. Change your code to this and see if it changes anything:
editText.requestFocus not working after notifyDataSetChanged of ListView (edittext on outside of listview)

hope this fix your issue I think when you call notifyDataSetChanged() a lot of processing happens that's why your call to editText.requestFocus() is being ignored.
try using this code after notifyDataSetChanged() call
